Budgam, Feb 18 (KNO): A Snow Carnival was organised at the scenic tourist destination of Doodpathri on Wednesday, the second day after its reopening, nearly 10 months after it was closed following the Pahalgam attack in April 2025. The reopening was announced by the Lieutenant Governor through his official X handle, after which the meadow was thrown open for tourists. To mark the reopening and boost tourism, the Department of Tourism organised a Snow Carnival featuring several adventure and cultural activities, including Snowshoe Race, skiing, Snow Cricket, paragliding, cultural programs, and Snow Tug of War. Hundreds of people participated in and witnessed the events, while thousands of tourists visited Doodpathri in just two days since its reopening. Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Doodpathri, Riyaz Ahmad Beigh, said the response has been overwhelming. “Thousands have visited Doodpathri in just two days. We are confident that Doodpathri will break its previous records of tourist footfall,” he said. Beigh said the destination offers multiple adventure activities, including skiing and drag lift facilities, making it an attractive alternative for winter tourism. “As more tourists come here, it will also reduce the rush at Gulmarg, as people will divert to Doodpathri. This will provide relief to service providers and locals, helping them earn their livelihood,” he said. He further said that the department is planning to introduce ski courses to bring Doodpathri prominently onto the ski resort map. Beigh added that all stakeholders, particularly service providers, have been instructed to maintain cleanliness at the destination to ensure a positive experience for visitors. The reopening of Doodpathri and the organisation of the Snow Carnival are expected to further revive tourism and economic activity at the destination—(KNO)
